I live and work in Seattle, my home for 25 years now. After an
education in Mechanical Engineering at Berkeley and graduate studies at the
University of Washington, I spent a career designing various gadgetry for
modern work and life.
I've been crawling over mountains since I was a Boy Scout; I suppose I never
quite got over that first glimpse of a snowcapped Mt. Lassen, shimmering
high in the hot June air, as a young boy. Soon, I began taking pictures of
what I saw.
Photographing so many wonderful forms has apparently led to a foray into
sculpture, I suppose. That's an explanation, but I'm not sure there really is
one. The two processes aren't really that different; discovering beauty and
meaning in what I find, with as little manipulation as I can get away with. What
results is a certain Industrial Age durability that you can play with a bit. Just
don't drop one on your foot; they're heavier than they look.
I hope my work surprises you, evokes some feeling in you, bewilders you,
and in the end, delights you.

Pat Gallagher
